Spending A Weekend on Vieques Island

Day Two: A Magical Night

After a long and full day, you'll want to relax in your hotel for an hour or so to relax and freshen up before an early dinner. Then you'll get dirty and wet all over again, but it will be worth it. And finally, if you're still up for it, finish off the evening at a cool tropical bar.

Itinerary

  1. Your last evening in Vieques will be unforgettable, so you might as well start with a memorable meal. Head to Café Media Luna (787-741-2594), which offers, of all things, a surprisingly good fusion of Indian and Puerto Rican cuisine.

  2. Contact Vieques Tours (787-447-4104) or Island Adventures to arrange a tour of the Vieques biobay. You can reach the biobay either via kayak or electric pontoon boat. No matter how you get there, make sure you visit this lagoon where tiny creatures make you glow in the dark when you get in the water.

  3. The biobay will tire you out, especially if you take the kayak tour, but if you want to stretch the night out, head to Isabel II and M Bar (787-741-4000), a cool, sophisticated lounge. Those who want a more rustic bar environment can check out Al's Mar Azul (787-741-3400), a friendly local watering hole.

  4. Head back to your hotel and fall into a grateful and gratifying sleep, with nothing but the whistle of the coquí tree frog and the rustle of leaves to lull you to sleep.
