The Bottom Line
Pros
- Abe is a fun guy, and that makes his tours all the more entertaining.
- For a visit to Vieques' underwater wonders and bioluminescent brilliance, you can do no better.
- Even if you don't know how to swim, you can enjoy these tours.
Cons
- No fault of Abe's, but the trip to Mosquito Bay is bumpy, squishy, and smelly.
- If you don't want to exert yourself, stay away; you'll be doing plenty of paddling at a decent pace.
Description
- Among the most fun kayak and snorkel trips I've had, thanks to the destination, the staff, and the jokes.
- With prices starting at $30 (and a terrific $100 all-in-one tour), Abe's is very reasonable.
- You can contact Abe at 787-741-2134 and 787-436-2686 (cell), or make an online reservation.
Guide Review - Abe's Snorkeling and Bio-Bay Tours in Vieques
It also helps that he essentially gives you a passport to two of the island's best attractions: its underwater kingdom, and its bioulimescent bay, a personal favorite. Put it all together (and add good-quality equipment into the mix) and you've got a fun island excursion.
Abe runs primarily two types of tours. Kayak snorkeling trips departing from the malecón in Esperanza, and nighttime Bio-Bay tours. The latter, of course, only heads to one destination; the former varies, with several destinations to choose from. (I loved snorkeling off Cayo Afuera, where we spotted, among a variety of fish, a school of translucent squid.)
I can heartily recommend Abe's for a day (or night) out while you're in Vieques.
