Probably the most unique and iconic building of Ponce is the old firehouse, a black-and-red striped structure that seems more at home in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory than an old city. Located in the Plaza Las Delicias, the whimsical building, built in Victorian style with arabesque accents, was completed in 1882 to be the main pavillion of the Ponce Exposition Fair of that year. Today the museum honors the city's firefighter guard and also serves as the ticket office and starting point of the Ponce Trolley.
