Where to Party on New Year's Eve 2012 in Puerto Rico

By

Wedged into the Puerto Rican Christmas season (that's right, I said "wedged in," not "at the end of"), New Year's is one giant party in Puerto Rico. Clubs, hotels, live bands, fireworks, tremendous revelry and copious amounts of rum and champagne are par for the course, along with a few fun traditions (like eating grapes at the stroke of midnight).

New Year's Eve, or Año Viejo (which actually means "Old Year" will have PR buzzing until ... well, until 2013. Here's where you'll want to be.

1. Club Brava

Club Brava, one of Puerto Rico's hottest nightclubs, and its annual Bubbles NYE bash is one of the hottest parties in town. Resident DJ LM will keep you going with dance, house and hip hop hits all night long. Expect a wicked laser light show, and get happy with the open bar all night long on sponsored drinks. Brava is a 21+ club.

2. Eternal Lounge

Eternal Lounge, the cool lobby-level hotspot at the Conrad Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino, presents ENYE 13, at their Moon, Ice and Fire bar. DJ Phred and live performances by Grammy nominee La Secta Allstar will help usher in 2013.

3. The Caribe Hilton

The Hilton's ballrooms are transformed into a multifaceted dance extravaganza known as the Night of Wonders. The New Year's Eve party features a variety of music to suit pretty much every taste.

4. The Oof! Family

The Oof! suite of restaurants (Toro Salao, Dragonfly, Aguaviva, Parrot Club, Piña Colada Club, and Koco) all have something up their culinary sleeves for New Year's Eve. Live music, special menus (not to mention terrific food), champagne toasts and a festive environment are all part of the fun.

5. Il Nuovo Perugino

This Italian fine dining standby in San Juan is hosting a dinner party with a seven-course Italian tasting menu at $90 per person, including live music.

6. The Sheraton Puerto Rico

The sprawling Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in Miramar transforms for New Year's into a mega-party called New Year's Evolution. The Evolution experience is a party through time, inviting guests to travel through four unique environments:
  1. The Timeless Promenade: Surrealism is the theme here, along with music from DJ Velcro (hip hop/funk/soul/jazz/dancehall/reggae) and DJ Gulembo (house & dance).
  2. Yesterday: Boogie to DJs and live bands as they play classic anthems from the 50's, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Guests will also be able to enjoy a retro photo op to record their time here.
  3. Today: The party continues with today's music spun by a DJ, Latin grooves performed by a Bomba & Plena group, and electronic beats.
  4. Tomorrow: Robots, futuristic visuals and dancers, DJs spinning electronica and new live beats music brings the future to the present.

7. La Concha

The lobby at La Concha Resort is always a place to see and be seen, but during New Year's the party reaches another level. The hotel usually has something going on to keep the crowds happy as the old year counts down to the new.

8. O: Live Boutique Hotel

The rooftop club at O:live boutique hotel is an elegant spot to welcome the warm San Juan night. And as 2012 draws to a close, you might want to be here for its four-course dinner and "Bonjour 2013" toast, which runs $150 per person. Or you can hang out at the Rooftop Club from 9pm to 2 am and enjoy an open bar and appetizers for $195 per person. Or you can do both for $300 per person.
