Celebrate a Traditional Puerto Rican Thanksgiving:

A Puerto Rican Thanksgiving has its own traditions and customs. And chief among them is the food. Sure, they do turkey here, but they do it differently from your mom's roast. But they also love their lechón on Thanksgiving, and that's where Legends of Puerto Rico comes in. Tour designer Debbie Molina-Ramos has designed a cool new tour that takes you to Guavate, the capital of lechón, for a day of rustic, traditional feasting, dancing and shopping.

On the Lechón Trail:

The Thanksgiving Tour takes place on November 25, and the tourbus offers pick-up from several San Juan hotels, including the Conrad Condado Plaza, Renaissance La Concha, Caribe Hilton, El San Juan Hotel & Casino, and Sheraton Old San Juan.

The tour begins at 11 am and takes you to the south center of the island. Once you reach Guavate, you'll have your choice of restaurants along the ruta de lechón, or "lechón trail." You can also visit local arts and crafts stores and, following lunch, enjoy live merengue and salsa and see if you can dance off a bit of your meal.

The tour lasts seven hours, including round trip transportation, and since it seats a maximum of 47 passengers, it makes for an intimate and fun full-day outing. Note that food and drinks are not included in the $55 tour price, so it's up to you how much to spend on your meal. Plan for about $10 for food and $1 to $2 for drinks.
