See what Chef Giovanna Huyke is saluting with relish? That powerful concoction, which included rum and a variety of hot peppers, almost sent half of the room, me included, gasping and choking when it was added to a frying pan as part of the Chef's sofrito recipe. Chef Huyke, one of the participating stars of Saborea!, celebrates Puerto Rican cooking and has often been hailed as Puerto Rico's most acclaimed culinary expert. The chef has published several books, hosts a daily TV show called La Cocina de Giovanna, or Giovanna's Kitchen, and is a regular guest on TV shows and newspapers around the country. She also has a wonderful website.
By the way, her dish ended up being sauteed shrimps in two different sofritos, one sweet, the other spicy, both scrumptious.
