If Spring is a time to get out and enjoy nature, you're going to love Puerto Rico in springtime. The forests are green, the gardens are blooming, and the weather is near-perfect. In particular, it's a great time to visit the botanical garden in San Juan. Very much off the beaten path for most tourists, this pristine landscaped treasure in the Río Piedras neighborhood of San Juan isn't just a simple collection of local flora. Over 30,000 plants and trees grace the 75 acres that comprise the gardens.
Spread over 12 distinct spaces, the gardens are a short drive from the San Juan's hotel strip and the walls of Old San Juan. It's not the first place on most tourists' agenda, but it's worth checking out, especially in Spring, when the flowers and plants are in bloom.
