Since the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino is one of the hotels currently offering a pretty good deal, I thought it deserved a closer look. When I stayed here, it had only recently opened; in fact, its flagship restaurant, the Brazilian churrascaria Texas de Brazil, hadn't moved in yet.
However, there was already plenty to recommend it. My massage at the Zen Spa was terrific; the rooms were spacious, modern and very comfortable; and the infinity pool would be a place I could hang out at all day, if I wasn't too busy placing bets at the largest casino in San Juan.
One of the things that makes the hotel such a draw for business travelers (its close proximity to the convention center) also keeps some leisure travelers from checking in. True, the hotel isn't in the old city, and it doesn't face the beach. But if you can handle a taxi ride to either of those destinations, the Sheraton Puerto Rico offers some wonderful benefits. Especially with rates starting from $149 per night, if you book within the next three days.
