Puerto Rico hasn't made its name in the growing field of medical tourism. But I have a feeling that's going to change. When you think about it, there's no reason why the island can't become a major player in the travel niche, especially for Americans looking for more cost-effective care beyond their home borders.
When you think about it, medical tourism makes a lot of sense. If you can package high-quality medical care with lower costs and an exotic vacation, why wouldn't you? And the truth is, Puerto Rico provides benefits that most medical tourist destinations could never offer. Like no passport required; and board-certified doctors; and proximity to the U.S. Oh, and let's not forget Puerto Rico's idyllic beaches, soothing rainforest, pleasant Caribbean ambience and warm people.
Around the world, more and more people are choosing to leave the comforts of their home countries and travel far and wide to seek medical treatment at a fraction of the expense. With Puerto Rico, you're not really leaving home and you're not traveling too far ... but you can save a nice chunk of change. Consider the beach a perk.
