First Old San Juan, now Culebra. I'm all about the negative thinking this week. And by negative thinking, I mean really positive reviews cleverly (I hope) couched in negative thinking. so when give you six reasons not to visit Culebra, please understand that I really, really want you to go to the island. It's one of my favorite places in Puerto Rico, and not just because it has Flamenco Beach.
But Culebra isn't for everyone. It's not for those who come to Puerto Rico in search of 5-star luxury resorts, duty-free shopping malls, casinos, nightclubs and historic fortresses. For those interests, the residents of Culebra will happily point you in the right direction. However, for those who seek a true escape, a dazzling display of natural beauty, and a reminder of how the Caribbean used to be a generation or two ago ... well, welcome to Culebra Island.
