With Halloween just over a week away, it's high time I started focusing on the scarier side of Puerto Rico. An what better way to start than by sharing a few choice ghost stories from a place that, quite frankly, should by all rights be happily haunted.
After all, any city with over 500 years of history should have its share of spirits wandering around. and Old San Juan has its share of spectral activity. Not only that, you'll find that many of its ghosts can be found at its most important and iconic historic sights. As military fortresses that have seen their share of untimely demises, El Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal have their share of resident spirits. And one of the oldest hotels in the old city has also enjoyed its share fo paranormal activity for many years.
If you want to spend a spooky Halloween night in Puerto Rico, here's an idea. As the clock approaches midnight, take a walk along Old San Juan's cobblestone streets, pass by the mighty fortresses that once protected these walls, and keep your eyes and ears open for those who once walked in your footsteps.
