It must be the upcoming Saborea Food Fest that has me thinking of Puerto Rican cooking all the time ... certainly, what's new, what's great, and what's unique about cuisine on the island will be a focus of my blogs for the next week. And I thought I'd kick things off with my vote for the five foods you have to try when you visit Puerto Rico. For this list, I've avoided dishes that can be found elsewhere in the Caribbean or in the Latin world. A good example is arroz con pollo, a hugely popular dish in Puerto Rico that can be found all over the Spanish-speaking world. Arroz con pollo didn't make the cut, but mofongo sure did ... along with four other staples of comida criolla.
