The Tantalizing, Tongue-Tickling Tastes of Ajili Mójili

Ajili Mójili. I just love saying it. But that's not the reason it's the third restaurant landing on this week's nod to exceptional Puerto Rican eateries. Ajili Mójili has been welcoming patrons from around the island and around the world since it opened its doors in 1989. Focusing on local classics, the restaurant elevates them to a gourmet dining experience and offers them in an elegant setting. The knowledgeable waiters, neatly attired in sombreros and suspenders, will do their best to make you feel at home; the indoor patio provides a pleasant ambience. And the food celebrates all that is criollo.

When to Go: The restaurant is best enjoyed at dinnertime, and it makes a great night out with your family or loved one. Ajili Mójili isn't cheap, especially as far as pure Puerto Rican restaurants go, but it's easily worth the price.
What to Order: To start with, try the asopao with lobster, a great example of how the restaurant kicks up a local favorite. Then dive into a signature mofongo with your choice of filling; my vote is for the large, succulent shrimp, but steak is a good option as well (a bit on the heavy side).
Claim to Fame: Often considered the flag-bearer for Puerto Rican fine dining, Ajili Mójili's best supporters are its patrons. I first heard about the restaurant from happy fans, and simply I've joined their ranks.

Just FYI, this restaurant is apparently now closed. Your other article and this blog post came up when we were searching last week. The last few months showed some pretty harsh reviews and what seemed to be a significant change in quality. When we walked by, it was completely empty and we were told by several people that they permanently closed. Just a head’s up in case you want to update your main article so people do not go searching for a non-existent restaurant. The website is still active though, but the phone just rings.
